Each year, INPG puts on seed swaps in late winter/early spring. It's another part of our encouraging folks to learn and practice skills to become self-reliant. Our seed swaps are free and open to the public. Folks can walk around and trade seed and some are for sale. We encourage people to bring strong and pure seed. This means no GMO; no treated seed. We are hoping for heirloom & organic-- by this we mean varieties that have been grown regeneratively and are adapted to our climate as well as varieties that have been passed down generations. Seed swaps are a good way to meet other local gardeners, which helps to foster a sense of community while saving you money.
The first seed swap in Stevens County is Saturday 1/27/24 at the Kettle Falls Public Library from 11am - 2pm. There will be a short discussion, probably around 12:30 or so, on community food production and regenerative agriculture, including growing grain and the use of our cleaner and related equipment. We will also hold a discussion on seed saving after the swap, at 2:00.
Next swap is on Feb. 9, from at 2:30 - 5:30pm at the Colville Public Library. Other scheduled swaps are at NE WA Hunger Coalition, Mar 4, 2:30-5; Mar 9 at Quartzite Brewery in Chewelah, times TBA; Mar 16 at the Deer Park Library, 12-5pm.
The Huckleberry Range Community Collective - seed library will be available at all swaps, with the possible exception of Deer Park. All seeds from the seed library are free, although we do ask that you save seed to return next year if at all possible.
BZ Farms will also be there with their permaculturally grown seeds and the Children of Coalition will also be there with a variety of unique organic, non-gmo seeds.
